Orphan Grain Train (OGT) is a North American volunteer network that gathers donations of food, clothing, medicine, medical supplies, Bibles, and other items in response to real needs around the world. Based in Norfolk, Nebraska, OGT has regional divisions across the country, organized to get necessary help to the endless requests where great needs have occurred. OGT works with Lutheran Disaster Response and the Red Cross in disasters. The New York Division, based in the Albany area, focuses primarily on medical supplies; however, it also collects clothing, linens, afghans, school supplies, and money for warm boots for orphaned children to be distributed worldwide to those in need. It has sent over 1,100 shunts (hydrocephalic valve units) to a Russian children's hospital. Items collected in the Eastern District are transported to the New York Division's warehouse in the Albany.
