The Philadelphia Zone sponsors a Reformation Festival Service annually. The festival has grown the last few years. In 2001, the service was held at St Luke Lutheran Church, Croydon, PA. Robert Tauscher (St. Johns Lutheran, Springfield, PA) preached the sermon. Rev. James Eckert (St. Luke's Croydon, PA) assisted. Part of the funds collected was donated to the Philadelphia Lutheran Ministries.
The zone collects needed items for Orphan Grain Train (OGT). The New York Division of Orphan Grain Train transported the collection back to Albany. From various Delaware Valley churches over 35 bicycles, boxes of clothing, blankets, non-perishable foods, medicinal and financial support was sent to the Albanys OGT warehouse.
Once an auxiliary of the Int'l Lutheran Laymen's League (LLL), OGT, now operates independently of the LLL. OGT remains in partnership with the LLL on various ministries. OGT is officially connected with the Lutheran World Relief and the Red Cross as one of the emergency response organizations. OGT has sent spiritual and humanitarian aid internationally. It has also ministered in the United States.
